The line of confidence and shyness that this chick straddles is adorable. As she and I walk down the block, my fingers laced with hers, I can’t help but grin to myself. I wasn’t kidding that I’d never done this before, which is the reason I’m taking her to breakfast at one in the morning and not right back to my apartment.

“The diner is around the corner and down a block. I park my car there every night that I work,” I say quietly, tugging on her hand and pulling her into my side.

“Smart move. Plus, parking on The Block sucks ass even on a Tuesday.” She doesn’t hesitate as she lets go of my hand and slides it around my waist.

I put my arm around her shoulders and she turns her face into my chest. “You cold?” She put a jacket on as we were leaving the club, but this is Baltimore in December, and it’s freezing here.

“A little, but I’m used to this weather,” she says with a laugh.

“It’s an adjustment,” I say quietly with a chuckle.

“Where are you originally from?”

I glance down at her and she’s looking up at me with deep blue eyes, her blonde hair framing her face perfectly. I stop walking and lean my head down, gently pressing my lips to hers. She gasps a little and my tongue runs across her bottom lip before dipping into her mouth to dance with hers.

When I pull away and stand up straight, she’s staring up at me with shock on her face but lust dancing in her eyes. “I’m originally from Cali. And we’re here.” I turn her and point at the diner in front of us.

She damn near squeals. “Shut up! I fucking love Mama B’s. Shit, I haven’t been here since my senior year of college.

Giving her a laugh, I pull her back to my side and open the door so we can go in. The bell jingles and an older woman behind the counter gives me a huge smile. She’s short with a head of gray hair that she wears in a high bun.

“Sammy, boy, how was work?” She comes around the counter and finally realizes I have someone with me. “And who is this lovely girl?”

“Jillian,” she says, squeezing my hip and extending her hand.

I hide my chuckle as I realize that I danced on, kissed twice, and dragged this woman out of the strip club I work at without formally asking for her name.

“Work was good, Ms. Gloria. How’s your night been?”

She smiles up at me and winks. “Your booth is open. Go ahead and sit down, I’ll bring you guys some coffee. Warm ya up a bit.” She gestures toward the booth in the back corner where I usually sit when I come in.

I pull away from Jillian and take her hand, weaving between the tables and guiding her to the booth. Letting her slide in first, I scoot in next to her. I don’t know why I’m drawn to her, but I want to be close to her.
